Board Moves 208 Orange, Eyes Grant Rush, And Pushes New Tech

The Farmersville Community Development Board met in April 13, 2026, and spent most of its time on projects that touch everyday life in town, from downtown property cleanup to park upgrades, grant deadlines, and new tools for board members. The meeting also set the stage for a busy May and June, when grant applicants, budget talks, and board training will all come back up.

208 Orange Street Is Handed Back To The City

Board members voted to transfer 208 Orange Street to the city of Farmersville after saying the board has finished its work on the property. The move also includes working with the attorney on the paperwork so the transfer can be done at no cost. Officials said they want the city to take the next step on the commercial side, which could help keep the property moving instead of sitting in the board’s hands.

Demolition Work At 208 Orange Draws Strong Feedback

The board also looked back at the demolition and cleanup at 208 Orange Street, and the reaction was clearly positive. Members said the work was done quickly, professionally, and with very little disruption to nearby residents. They also praised the people and groups that helped, including local contractors, city departments, neighborhood volunteers, and community organizations that pitched in.

Kayak Launch Is Done At The South Lake Park

Board members said the kayak launch project is complete and was installed in one day. The update drew a lot of excitement, with members saying residents have already been using it. It gives people another way to enjoy the South Lake park and the water without waiting on a longer project timeline.

Sparks Of Freedom Money May Shift To Other Park Uses

With Sparks of Freedom canceled this year, the board discussed what happens to about $25,000 that had been tied to that event and park-related support. Members said the Parks Board may ask for an amendment or a carryover so the money can be used for other park priorities under the master plan. That leaves the door open for the funds to still go toward public space projects, even if the original event is off the table.

Chaparral Trail Work Is Still Moving Forward

The board said the Chaparral Trail grant remains in progress, with the larger funding already awarded and final work still being worked out with Dunaway. Members said the trail should keep moving toward completion over the coming months. For residents, that means the path improvements are still on track, even if some finishing touches remain.

Website Team Keeps Building Out The City’s Online Look

The board said Group M7 is still working on the city’s website and has already filmed drone footage from local events and around town. A new logo is also being developed and could be used both online and for city events. Board headshots and email addresses are still being gathered so the site can be more complete and consistent.

Hiring Push Continues For Board Administrative Assistant

The board said it has posted the administrative assistant position and has already received several resumes. The hiring committee plans to start interviews in the next couple of weeks. If filled, the role should help keep board paperwork, scheduling, and meeting support more organized.

Tablets For The Board Move Toward Council Review

Members discussed the plan to buy tablets for board use and said the item is headed to city council for review. The devices would be run under the city’s IT security setup and are meant to keep board business in one secure place. The board said the change could cut down on paper clutter and make documents easier to find during meetings and training.

Grant Application Window Opens With May 1 Deadline

The board said the 4B special project grant application deadline is May 1, and only a few applications have come in so far. Members urged groups to turn in their packets on time, since late submissions will not be accepted. That means community groups hoping for funding need to move now, not wait until the last minute.

May 11 Meeting Will Be A Full House For Grant Applicants

The board said its May 11 meeting will need full attendance because grant applicants are required to be there to present. Applications will be handled first come, first served, and applicants will be able to leave after their turn if they want. Board members were also told to expect a longer meeting and to come prepared with questions, not back-and-forth debate.

June 8 Training Meeting Reset After Scheduling Conflict

The board moved its city training and board meeting to June 8 after a scheduling conflict on the city side. The session will cover board rules and procedures and is aimed especially at newer members. Food will be served at 5 p.m. before the training starts, with the regular meeting to follow.

Financial Report Cleared With A Few Check Updates

The board approved the March 2026 financial report after reviewing several check details that had already cleared the bank. Members were told some listed balances looked different because a few checks had cleared after the statement date or were reissued. The board also thanked city staff for providing larger-print copies of checks and supporting documents.
