🌳 PARKS & RECREATION: FEES, FIELDS, AND FESTIVE LIGHTS
The Parks Board covered everything from how to pay for future playgrounds to who flips the switch at Farmersville Lights. Here’s what went down.
🧾 PARK DEVELOPMENT FEES
Farmersville is growing fast, and so are the park needs. The board voted to recommend a 2,000 dollar park development fee for every new home, both single family and multifamily. The goal is simple: make new growth help pay for new parks instead of leaning only on taxpayers. The fee will help fund playgrounds, trails, and sports fields over the next decade while keeping Farmersville in line with nearby cities.
🧹 VOLUNTEER DAY + 2026 CLEANUP DATES
Dozens of volunteers and city crews hit Chaparral Trail, Southlake Park, and Farmersville Parkway for fall cleanup. The LDS Church helped organize the effort, which included trash pickup, painting, and trail clearing. Next year’s cleanups are already on the books for Feb 28, May 9, and Sep 12, giving residents three chances to pitch in and keep town spaces looking sharp.
🚶 CHAPARRAL TRAIL CREW
The volunteer team maintaining the trail is up to six members and growing. The city plans another call for sign-ups soon. With regional grant money still pending, these local volunteers are helping fill the gap to keep the popular trail usable.
🏟️ JW SPAIN COMPLEX
Baseball and softball season wrapped with solid field conditions and even better news: new fencing is already going up. The city is reviewing contractor quotes for a major field refurb, but prices are higher than expected. Parking is also on the radar, with plans to add stripes and overflow signage after reports of game-night gridlock.
🤝 YOUTH BASEBALL & SOFTBALL AGREEMENT
A new contract between the city and Farmersville Youth Sports is headed to Council in December. It waives team fees as long as the league continues maintaining fields, a trade that saves the city staff time and keeps games running smoothly. Residents can still use batting cages by scheduling with the league. The new version also clarifies insurance coverage and adds flexibility for clinics and tournaments.
🐟 SOUTHLAKE PARK
The fight against hydrilla continues. Texas Parks & Wildlife approved 200 more sterile grass carp to control the fast-spreading plant choking the lake. The fish should arrive within weeks, restoring clearer water and easier access for fishing and kayaking.
✨ FARMERSVILLE LIGHTS
Holiday prep is in full swing. Contractors have started decorating for Farmersville Lights, with a lighting ceremony set for Dec 2 at CBTX (Community Bank Texas). Students from Farmersville Junior High are competing in an essay contest to earn the honor of flipping the big switch. Sponsorships have already topped 50,000 dollars, funding new displays and lighting upgrades.
🧪 GRANTS & PROJECTS
The city is still waiting on results from the Collin County Open Space Grant, which would help fund new park improvements and trail connections. Another big one, a multimillion-dollar Chaparral Trail grant, heads to the Hunt County board on Nov 11. If approved, it would fund long-term repairs and extensions for the trail system that connects Farmersville to the regional network.
🎶 CHRISTMAS CONCERT
Mark your calendar for Saturday, Dec 13, when the FISD choir and band will perform right after the Christmas parade at the Onion Shed. It’s a free, hometown show that caps off Farmersville’s biggest holiday weekend of the year.
🏢 DOWNTOWN CLEANUP, NO MORE TALK, ALL ACTION
The FCDC meeting focused on clearing blighted property, launching a modern website, and tightening project timelines to keep momentum going.
🧑💻 NEW FCDC WEBSITE APPROVED
The board voted to hire Group M7 to build a dedicated FCDC website for 15,100 dollars, with hosting at 75 dollars per month. A 20,000 dollar budget amendment covers setup and a cushion for updates. The site will make it easier for developers, businesses, and residents to find incentives, project info, and board updates, all in one place.
🌳 208 ORANGE STREET: FULL CLEAR-OUT FUNDED
FCDC approved 19,000 dollars for full tree and shrub removal at 208 Orange Street. Brown’s Tree Service will handle 29 mature trees, pulling interior stumps and grinding along the fence line to protect neighbors. Utilities will be disconnected before work begins, and Police and Fire may use the building for short training sessions before demolition. The cleanup will prepare the site for future downtown parking and eliminate long-standing safety and maintenance issues.
🗓️ LOCKED TIMELINE
City Council will consider the budget amendment on December 1, followed by a special FCDC lunch meeting on December 8 to finalize the contractor award. These steps keep the Orange Street cleanup on track, with visible changes expected early in the new year.
🪧 HIGHWAY 380 DISPLAY SIGN
Design work is advancing for the display sign near Tedford Chevrolet, which will promote city events and branding. It’s separate from the “Welcome to Farmersville” gateway signs planned for Highways 78 and 380. The updated signage will boost visibility for the city’s businesses and community events along one of the busiest corridors.
💻 BOARD TECH AND EMAIL UPGRADES
Fulcrum IT is preparing quotes for city-issued tablets and official email addresses for all board members. The shift to secure, centralized systems will speed up packet reviews, reduce paper waste, and keep public records organized under city oversight.
🧑💼 ADMIN ASSISTANT PLANNING
The hiring committee will refine a new administrative assistant position for FCDC based on existing city job templates. The role will focus on project coordination, documentation, and communication, allowing board members to spend more time on development projects.
🚶 CHAPARRAL TRAIL BIDS
The second round of bids for Chaparral Trail improvements has closed, and the city’s consultant is preparing a recommendation for Council. The project will improve a key recreation and tourism link that connects Farmersville to the regional trail network.
📚 BOARD TRAINING SET
Joint FCDC and FEDC training is scheduled for Monday, November 17 at 6 p.m. The session will cover Texas Economic Development Corporation rules and eligible projects, helping board members streamline project approvals.
🔎 JANUARY WATCH LIST
Next on the radar: reviewing properties at 203 Hill Street and 205 Orange Street for potential redevelopment, and an update on the city’s tax recovery program, which could reclaim lost revenue to reinvest in local improvements
✏️ Wrapping Up the Week
Farmersville’s gearing up for growth. Park plans, trail grants, and volunteer crews are shaping cleaner, greener spaces, while the FCDC preps downtown for redevelopment with tree removals and a new website to attract business.
